After 25 years of use and many repairs, the deck trim is about shot. Would like to know if anyone knows a supplier for the eyebrows that run the length of the cabin, the quarters next to the main hatch and the handrails. Terry

Just a thought :)

After they got crappy looling on my boat I removed them and filled the screw holes with Marine-Tex. Needs no maitenance and still looks great.

Add to Alan's thought.

I have already replaced the cabin trim, handrails, and a lot of other outside teak. I used PlasTeak. All the "wood" in the pic is plasteak. They now make it in the darker color that I wish I had waited for. But just yesterday I removed the cabin trim and temporarily filled the holes with caulk. I plan to fill the holes and run a 1/2" vinyl stripe. I have a small leak over the head sink and I am gradually going to get rid of holes. What really bothered me was how much crap got trapped behind the strip.

I bought Plasteak for the eyebrow.

I was warned by our fellow viewers that it wouldn't look natural.(that was you Ed, wasn't it?) It didn't and the company wouldn't take it back so it's landfill. Another problem was that it was custom cut for me. (that's why they wouldn't take it back) Anyway they had to cut it too thick (tall) for the eyebrow and, of course, I had no way to make it shorter because the stuff was a twenty foot coil of plastic. The original teak is still there but subject to any ideas from our viewers.

Fred, get over it!

You have thrown so much money at that boat. I know you didn't like the PlasTeak and it was me that warned you. But surely that is not the only mistake you ever made with your boat dollars. :) Actually, done right and with the new darker color it looks quite good. I plan to keep my handrails and other trim, just getting rid of those holes on the cabin sides.

Ed, It was!

No other waste of money comes to mind! I never thought about it until now. Any mistakes I made during our rebuild were to jobs like cutting and fitting wood. There was no cost penalty because the bad pieces were just used someplace else. I'm still thinking,,,nothing,, I'll get back to you on this,,,. Failed equipment doesn't count,,,, those were under warranty. The old/new TV for the boat is used at home in the kitchen,,,,Hmmmm,,

Ed I'VE GOT IT!

My owner built refrigeration system with A/C. Biggest mistake I ever made! Over $11,500 invested as of 1992. The first guy I bought from was a master at sensing when to tell someone what they wanted to hear. And he's still in business and doing the Seattle boat show! I had to do it all again from the beginning. I hired four different workers and have gone through countless bottles of gas. Now it's working perfectly. And I have my own refrigeration company and can buy all types of gas because I'm certified. Hmmmm, maybe that refer system wasn't such a mistake after all. OK, never mind.

Teak Lumber

Teak Lumber is handled by various hardwood specialty lumber yards. There should be one in your area. People on the docks should know. Check the internet, but shipping will high. If you know anyone with a thickness planer, by rough-cut lumber and finish it (you need to buy a bit thicker as a result) I would forgo the eyebrow. The one on my boat was removed by a previous owner, the teak handrails are enough. Jamestown Distributers has handrails at a reasonable price if you can use stock rails.

Teak Trin

If you have a Lumber Liquidators near you, try them, they have teak decking in 1 x 6 and sometimes 1 x 8, its dirt cheap, and gets the job done.
