Hello. I have a 1986 Hunter 23. I'm trying to replace the teak rails that hold the sliding companionway hatch in place. The rails I'm speaking of are mounted horizontally along the port and stbd sides of the sliding hatch. The rails are 23-7/8" by 1-3/4" by 3/4". Does anyone know where I can get replacements? Or where to find small teak lumber of this size? Many thanks, Steve s/v Grace Darling, Hunter 23

Any specialized

woodworking shop such as Woodcrafters Shop should have teak in various sizes. Be prepared for sticker shock!! You can also check with Hunter for direction. Some lumber yards carry teak but check your phone book. I just bought some to replace the handholds on the cabin top. Your rails shouldn't be too hard to fabricate if you have the tools. make em thicker

Hey Steve Welcome! I have the same boat same probs. We made new ones twice. after seeing the counter sink screws crack the new ones i've decided to make them thicker. the prob i've seen is the cabin top has sagged in the middle. if you look at the cabin top sideways you will see it. What happens is the sag makes the hatch slides tight to the sliding compainon way hatch also causeing them to crack. the ones we made recently seem to be ok now. Don't forget to make that rabbit on the bottom of the teak, i will help with clearing the sliding hatch. Good luck! Denise

Check WM or Defender

Check under teak trim. There is a trim molding that has the same dimensions and will work.

New Teak

Hi Steve, When we bought our 23 the teak was cracked and in bad shape. I bought one piece of teak from a hardwood supplier. It cost $149.00. This was enough to make all new grab rails and slides. I made the new ones thicker as well. I also made slats to cover the fuel locker so its more secure. I still have about 1/3 of the teak left for other projects. When you put your slide hatch back in place I took the fuzzy side of velcro and put on the under side and it slides much nicer. Enjoy the boat. Rob Morton S/V Euphoria
