Good grief

Sometimes I am embarrassed by what this forum has turned into.Disagreement is more than half the fun. But the disagreements cannot turn into personal attacks. For anyone who can't see the difference, here's how to tell when you're getting off course:If you find yourself:- writing about the author rather than the topic- characterizing or labeling a post (i.e., stupid, foolish, bs, etc.)- pointing out spelling and grammar errors (groan)...you're out of compliance here. If you prefer all the name calling there are _plenty_ of other sailing forums that can accommodate you. This one can't.And all this on a Sunday, no less.

Your comment about me did not upset me, but I appreciate your apology. At my age, I have such a lousy memory I won't remember this thread in a couple of weeks. This has been a fun post and you only added to our community. You do not have the vicious style I have seen from some others on this board. If we all agreed, what would be the point of the forum?

I think that is part of what Phil was saying. This forum has been a forum of individual opinion. It was based on opinion and the more you saw a posters ability to respond with relevant info, trust was gained. It doesn't mean that posters don't make mistakes, it means they consider every question and give a thought full opinion, concidering that life an limb is on the line. The truth is we are individuals. That is how we should respond to a post. Don't worry about if your answer meets the groups approval. It is your opinion.When posts contain the word we, it is an assumption that others agree. Believe me, when you post here you are on your own!That is what makes this place special. When you have people grouping against a person, that is wrong. To gang against advice that will kill someone, that is good.I wish to continue to contribute to this forum as I have for more than 8 years, maybe 10... yes memory is not a strong point here either. Higgs, The beauty of this forum is that people give good advice and if bad advice is given, it is challenged. I thank Phil for making his Statement about this forum. Landua: Your opinion is your opinion and you should not have to aplogize for it. If one does'nt agree we should still treat you with respect and not personally attack you. I have have been personnally attacked a couple of time on this forum and I think there is no excuse for doing that. Some are not capable of seeing the other side of an issue - this statement is, indeed a dig, but it also truth.
