We have a project to kick out of the doors by April 1. She needs teak removal (DONE) deck recore, mast step rebuild, mast partner rebuild, new bowsprit, etc... The boys pulled the teak and the deck glass where needed and we are about ready to go back togeher.

So it goes...

Back breaking job ... been there done that, have the shoulder bursitis to prove it.

Luckily my teak strakes were still in good condition, so I re-milled them and then epoxy laminated back down over the new FRG decking. Nuthin' beats a (now laminated) teak deck.
What's the year made on that Ty37?

Absolutely love the look of Tayana's and other teak barges...but you couldn't pay me to own one unless I was independently wealthy. I can barely keep a pair of hand rails, companionway boards and a cockpit table looking halfway decent for crying out loud!

I don't know what year she is. We pulled out end cut teak blocks that were used for core. Never seen that before.

Mostly the Tayana yard used end-cut low density 'softwood squares' for the core and surrounded each one with polyester; the thought being that the polyester 'moat' would prevent water saturation at greater than ONE 'square'. Didnt work, and these decks fail just as fast (~20 yrs.) as 'normal' screwed down decks. As you just found out, cutting the damn polyester 'fill' away is worse than cutting the 'softwood' away and you now have a boat at lighter weight by about 4,000 #8 phillips head screws. ;-)

Bob, Actually having a 'teak farm' is easy .... IF you use one of the modern 'two part, clear' over 'two part, base' coating systems for the teak. This *Honey Teak* Job is over 10 years old, with 'a quick maintenance' clear coat every other year. You learn real quick that you dont use varnish or cetol or other quick failing 'single part' coatings if you own a 'teakey'.
BTW that teak deck is coated with SEMCO.:

Wow....that is a TON of teak. After doing Cetol to my boat today I am a fan of boats without teak on the exterior! Teak does need a lot of work to keep it nice. The thing is that when it is nice it looks amazing.

RichH.....that is an amazing looking boat.
