We are new Catalina 22 owners. Our boat will be hauled out and stored on our trailer, mast up, in the boat yard. Any suggestions on tarp size and method would be appreciated. I assume I will need at least two tarps due to the mast being up. Thanks

Haystack

Best luck I've had with tarps for my Cat-22 is one of the large heavy duty silver colored tarps made to cover haystacks. You can buy one oversize and cut it down to fit, probably in your case making a slit from the front to get around the mast, then overlap forward when you tie it down. Small stones tucked into the tarp can be tied around with double half hitches, or you can install grommets to tie whereever you want. Biggest problem, is the cockpit area where it needs some support to keep from sagging when rain and ice form. In my case and probably yours too, successive snow forms and melts, and then freezes into very heavy blocks. Or you can purchase a much more expensive cover custom made for C-22's. Dick

undercover support

I had the same problem. I used the plastic pipe for electrical wires (mine was gray). I then bent it over the mast (very easy to bend) marked how long it should be and cut with a hack saw. I then drilled a hole at each end for some plactic covered wire (cheap stuff)inserted in both ends and tied a knot in one side and pulled on the other. This made a nice bow that supports the tarp easly and if you cut it correctly it will apply pressure to the inside of the lip at edge. I also used a short piece of line to tie it at the top where it crosses over the mast. The best thing it does not rub the tarp through and it's easy to store for next year. I did one for the cockpit and one for the foredeck, this year I will place two in the cockpit. I hope this is helpful.
