Will take a closer look at the material. We were hoping for a simple replacement. There is an Origo Microwave model with the exact same Tappan dimensions but it, too, is no longer available.

Probably made in the same manufacturing plant with different label. Plant closed due to ... (your choice of answers) and now the materials and parts are all in a larger form so as to different manufacturing equipment. The good news. They are all a lot cheaper than 12 years ago. They are also considered use and disposable on part failure.
