Tapered roller bearings

I intend to do some trailering this year and would have to have some replacement wheel bearings on hand before I hit the road.My MagicTilt trailer has Chinese PEER L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearings.I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about this.Has anybody had trouble with these?Anybody replaced theirs with a Timken or better brand?Any recommendation on where to buy?

Wheel Bearings

These are very common wheel bearings and I imagine they are made by lots of manufacturers. I think its a safe bet you'd get more consistent quality from one of the major manufacturers.Does your trailer have 10" drum brakes? If so, you can buy an extra brake drum that comes with wheel bearings installed. My extra drum is mounted to the trailer on an extra axle spindle with spare tire and wheel. Check Champion Trailers website for prices.I figure the odds are in my favor that I'll have all the bits and pieces to replace a seized wheel bearing beside the road. Oh yea, my boat is a 1994 23.5 with original Hunter trailer.Good Luck

I'll Second Alan

I would not fret much over the bearings manufacturer. You'll likely not wear them out but they are more likely to get messed up another way. A set of pregreased bearings is a great idea and a set already in the drum is a better one. I can't say enough about the folks at Champion Trailers either. Come to think of it I think it was Alan who turned me on to them even though I was only about an hour away from them, Thanks Alan.

If you replace the bearings and racers, suggest Timken. I too get the fuzZy wuzzy with chinese or eastern europe style bearings. Make sure you have buddy bearings to replace the ones you remove.
