I messed up and left blue paint masking tape( the 3M good stuff) on too long. Can anyone recommend an effective remover vehicle. I used some VC17 Thinner. Would something else work better?

I've recently removed 20 year old tape from my hull with a product called "oops" and a razor blade. Tape came off quite readily.

couple ideas

Two products, one called "Goof Off" and another called "Mask Off" might work.

WD-40

This stuff is good for every thing but brushing your teeth. I've found that it doesn't hurt any kind of hard surface but keep it away from fabrics you can't wash. It's milder than other solvents and easy to clean off with Soap and Water. It works on getting stickers off glass so it should soften the tape for you to remove it. Plus we all have WD40 in our tool bin.

ACETONE

I did the same thing last month. I used acetone and a rag. A little rubbing and it comes right off.

Paint Thinner

Not as bad as acetone & work just as fast & cheaper. Removes all types of residue. Even the gummy left-behind from an old fender.

Chemical Tape Removal

I'd agree that WD-40 (Kerosene) might be the best chemical tape & residue remover. Whatever you use - make certain you rinse well /w water (remember Acetone, for instance, is a solvent).

Get the eraser

Go to your auto parts supply and buy a rubber wheel that mounts to a variable speed drill. This rubs off all stipes, tape and decals at low RPM.
