Tanks on a Catalina 27

So my 27 has a lack of tanks on board. I've seen in philwsailz thread http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=123450&page=4
where he added the 30 gal tank, which I'm thinking would be a nice size. Overall as far as list/trim go would this setup make sense.

I'd like to locate 4 t-105 batteries on the Starboard side, under the berth, but as forward as possible. It would would be close to the same amount of weight 280lbs vs the ~310lbs for the water and tank, but the water tank would be more forward and the batteries would be more aft. See attached image.

Would putting a holding tank (grey water for now) in the V-berth make the most sense?

As far as plumbing goes, would one water pump (the circle on the drawing) with a T-fitting be sufficient to have water to at both sinks (galley, head)?

For drainage, I think that gravity would work well for the head sink, but the galley sink with the distance would need something different(pump) or do you think that there could be sufficient drop in the drain line to have a gravity drain work.

Thanks

Your battery location is where my gas tank is. Where is your gas tank located?

As for the batteries balancing the water tank the should do the job either where you drew the battery bank or even under the dinette seats.

Yes, a single pump will be capable of supplying both sinks.

The boat originally had an inboard, at some point in it life, the one of the owners had it removed and had an Honda BF8A outboard put on the transom. So I've got 2 3gal tanks in the aft lazarette. Currently the batteries are in the dinette seats. I just don't think there will be enough space for 4 6v batteries in that area.

Ahh. So yes then, I think your drawn location is good.

Dig around and find one of Maine Sail's posts regarding battery orientation. Most don't think of it but he makes some good points regarding the best way to keep electrolytes in your batteries when heeled.

If your inboard is gone, remove and patch the hole where the raw water intake was/is. One less hole in the bottom of the boat. It should be right about where you are talking about putting the batteries.

All the Thur hulls are patched already.the only thurhull are the two in the transom for the cockpit drains and the bilge pump discharge.

Will have to read up on that article you mentioned

Our C-27 was also an outboard.

We kept the batteries were you propose to put your. We only had 2 12v but you should be able to cram some 6vs there. I would build a nice shelf for them. We had 10 gallons of water in the port side settee more may be a tight fit.

We had an intake thru hull for the head and a drain thru hull for the sink. Worked well. On our 30 we have a T on the head thru hull connecting the sink drain to the toilet. We can close the thru hull and run bleach/ vinegar thru the sink drain and the intake side of the toilet. Keeps the head smell down as we are in salt water and stuff can grow up there in the toilet.

We also have an RV type pressure pump for our fresh water that serves both the head and galley. Although nice for taking a shower it wastes water. We have a manual foot pump in the galley and plan on putting one in the head. No touching handles with soiled hands, you can meter water usage much better and no electrical usage. We tend never to turn on the pressure pump. Although we have 2 spigots on the counters it is worth it.
