Tank rework

There still some fine aluminum filings in my tank after rework. The fellow who did the work indicated he washed the tank out. What level of this type of contamination is acceptable?

Can you still see these shavings in the tank? Why can't you remove them?

I would guess that your filter is going to take them out if they ever get that far, but I would try to remove anything and everything that you can. There is no reason why you cannout flush it out with a chemical wash (but he should).

I re-washed the tank, and hopefully got most of them, a little perturbed that the person I paid did not do a very good job cleaning.

let it dry out and then turn it on its side so one corner is down and use a shop vac to get the rest out through the inspection port or the gauge hole....

That is how I started the cleaning, but it soon became apparent that there was more stuck to the walls. So I rinsed again with #2 and sucked that out again. I did this a few more of times, each time getting less.

Witz,

Just stick a piece of PVC pipe or PEX tube onto your shop vac and suck it out via the fuel sender hole. If baffles are in the way shake it till you can't get any more into that compartment and call it a day... I do this whenever I install a fuel sender and you tap for the screws. Some metal always falls in during this install.
