Currently anchored up in the Manatee River, on the south side of Tampa Bay. For the past couple of weeks the weather has been very strange and spooky. Moreso than I can ever remember. The 100 mile run from Pensacola to Port St.Joe took 30 hours. Sailed until boat speed got down to the point didn't have steerage way. Ended up motoring the last 30 miles, which was the fastest 30 of the entire crossing. The 200 mile run from Port St.Joe over to Tampa took 36 hours. All sailing so far has been either dead calm, or else 25 to 30 knots. On the nose of course. Now were anchored up here, and it is blowing from 25 to 30 knots. Seas offshore are 10 +.

Could motor on down to Venice via the ICW. Then stop at the Crow's Nest for oysters and a Guinness. Fond memory that. That was our first stop coming up from Marathon.

N&E- You probably know this but there is a sweet little anchorage just to the south, on ICW. At Coquina beach on the north side of Long Boat Pass. There is a public restroom at the waters edge and the beach is just across the street- a great place to stretch the legs. The best thing though is the free trolley that runs through the area to stores and restaurants- it stops maybe 200 feet from the anchorage. Have fun!

Just thought of this quotation from Oliver Wendell Holmes for Nice: "I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."

Speaking of Lance's Anna Maria Island there is a restaurant just off the ICW behind Sisters Key, Moore's Stone Crab. It is 100 yards north of an anchorage that is on your chart. After we left Venice we went there for dinner and they let us stay on the dock overnight. There is no power or water.

Welcome to Florida. We have just had the coldest January and February in 60 years and are on track for the wettest March since records began. No telling yet about April. You need to get further South. No Frost South of the Peace River.

Anna Maria Island - Bimini Bay

Find your way into Bimini Bay on Northeast side of Anna Maria Island... once inside head SSE about 1/4 mile to a small lagoon across from School Key. Very protected. Good restaurant at the small marina near the bay entrance.

Here's some pics:
