Can anyone suggest a haulout location around the bay or between Port Richey and St. Pete? I thought one of the big yards in Tarpon Springs could handle my 37-footer at 18000+. But no luck there.

I am trying to get to Florida from snowy Ohio and before I come back would like to leave the boat high and dry. It is time to replace the standing rigging and also the furler. So I need a place that can handle the mast and will let me work on it. The boat might have to sit there for many months due to my current home situation. Any ideas appreciated.

There is Neptune Marine 727-934-2370 in Tarpon Springs. My buddy had his Whitby 42 done there and was very happy with the work. I can put you in touch with my buddy if you would like to talk with him.

Ed, you added the last paragraph while I was typing. Long term dry storage is harder to come by down here. I have heard of a place in central Pinellas that trucks the boat to their lot and you can work on it there for as long as you like. Got the information from someone at West Marine. I will try and dig it up for you.

Thanks Paul. Yes, Tarpon Springs looks like a natural until you call. Coming up from Marathon that is where I had to go in due to the low tide in Port Richey. So I had the opportunity to see who had big yards and big lifts. But when I called no one had space for storage on the hard.

Hi ED

Hey Ed it's finally getting warm here in Florida come on down from the snow and cold.
If you can't find any thing closer to you there is All Amwerican in Charlotte Harbor that all the guys have told me about from my Marina at Burnt Store.
I have been told it is long term storage and can do your own work,I pass it all the time and see all the boats in storage from the road.
If you need more info just let me know.

Hi Ed, sorry you have to pull and store. I feel your pain. I know a guy that bought a wood/composit trimaran and had it hauled in Tarpon, $1500 out and launch included, catch is they charge $30 a day for the storage. He told me he only needed 2 weeks to do bottom and some other work-that was almost 2 months ago. It has really strapped him financially. The weather has hindered his progress, and he under estimated the time needed to repair. I am available when you need to move it. If it were me i would look at possibly Ruskin area, or even east of Ft Myers on the okechoobee waterway. I drove there and looked at an ebay boat. There's a giant marine yard there and they had hundreds of boats on the hard in different states of repair. Take your time looking, its a very important decision. If I can help in anyway ? Just let me know. Patrick

Called around and found two. The closest is Joule Yacht Transport. They move your boat in and out of the lot as part of the storage cost and you can work on the boat.
http://www.jouleyacht.com/index.html local phone number 727-573-2627
Second is Charlotte Habor Boat Storage, again you can work on the boat and stay on the dry docked boat while you are working as I understand it.

Good luck with this. I also can help you move the boat if you need assistance.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the efforts. I did talk with Sailor's Wharf and got their costs which I think are reasonable: $10./foot for haul, wash, stand up, and launch. Then $7.50/foot per month for storage with a 3 month minimum. That is less than my monthly slip fee. And I save the bottom cleaning. They are a "clean marina" so I cannot do any heavy sanding but they will let me paint the mast. I am going to replace all the standing wire and add a forestay with a new Spin-Tec furler I think.

I can only be away when there is a qualified nurse with my wife. That limits me to eight hours three times a week. Pat, you could do that while I sail! Kidding, but I will need a crew to deliver Ladylove to the marina that I decide upon. I'll be chatting with Ed Allen, someone who can handle a big, fast boat like the H37C. :) All I have to do now, besides check the other marinas, is find a way to get us down there. Stay tuned. And thanks again. Now to the phones.

Ed, Charlotte Harbor boat storage and all American Covered Boat storage are next door to each other. Both are accessed thru a lock in the Myakka river about 20 miles up Charlotte harbor north of Boca Grande inlet. Tides may be an issue if you have the deep keel 37 c, but we are out of the extreme lows of winter. I think both can arrange non-working remote storage cheap
