I recently bought a 1980 C25. How do I determine whether the boat has a tall rig or a standard rig? I've searched for specs, and found just about everything except for mast length. Could someone point me to this information? Also, I found conflicting info on mast height above the waterline; one place listed 33', the other 36-something. I don't think there is a 3-foot mast length difference between standard and tall rig, is there? Thanks, Jack

the tall and short of things

I depends, if you have a flat top 25 it may be the shorter of the two, if you have a raised deck you may have the taller.

Call Catalina with hull #

Hi Jack - Catalina keeps records of most if not all the boats they've built over the years; I called Catalina with the hull # of my 1986 C36 and they looked it up and told me I had the tall rig. Hope this helps, Trevor

Dang, I thought I DID post on the Catalina 25 forum! Sorry, folks, I guess I'm still learning to "navigate" this site! Jack

Jack...

Hi Jack - This is a great site to post such a question, as there are many Catalina owners here to help (hence the name!). At Ease just offered another resource for you, a separate site hosted by another party for additional C25 specific support. Best, Trevor

Tall Rig

We had the 1984 tall rig C25. The mast is two feet taller on the tall rig. I think it was 30 vs. 28 Feet. The most visible difference is that the boom rides 1 foot lower on the Tall version. I can spot one a mile away! You can just about stand upright in the cockpit of a standard rig while tacking. Don't try that in a tall rig version! The combination gives you a 3 feet longer mainsail luff. Total rated sail area (main + jib) I believe was 295 Vs. 270 sq ft.

I'm confused!

Thanks for all the replies! But I'm a little confused; did the forum moderator move my post and all responses? It's showing now in the "Ask A Catalina Owner" forum, but originally I'd mistakenly posted in the Hunter forum, I think it was. I went back in to re-post in the Catalina forums, and found this already there! Jack
