Taking on water at dock

Recently bought a used DaySailor and am discovering that when it is at the dock, rigged, ready to go.....it is taking on water! Been bailing every day. Seems to be coming in mostly through the cup and ball system at the stern. Any one else have this problem and if so, how did you recitify it? Hate to pull the boat. It's not convenient to use if it has to be launched and rigged each time considering my location. I'd really like to leave it in, but.....can't bail every day. Ed Barker

Leak needs to be fixed!

Hi Ed -Definitely something needs to be fixed. After bailing, take a very close loose (use paper towel if it's a very small leak) to determine the source. Once you find it, pull the boat and fix it. Then back in the water for the season. Best of luck, Trevor

I know where the leak is...how do I fix it?

I know the leak is coming in through the ball and cup drain in the stern. Question my ability to take the drain apart. Has anyone done that successfully?

ball and cup drain in the stern

Hi Ed - Sorry if my initial response wasn't helpful. What do you have to lose by removing the entire ball and cup drain assembly in the stern for inspection? Take it out and take a close look to see what's going on. There may be some debris in the cup that is preventing the ball from seating properly. You will need to rebed the assembly prior to reinstallation, but this shouldn't be difficult. If the assembly needs to be replaced, perhaps Rudy at D&R Marine has the part. If not, I'm sure you could source something that would work elsewhere. I have a contact at Hunter Marine, and they use a similar setup on their new Liberty. Let me know if you need me to pursue this for you. Let us know how you make out, Trevor
