This is our first sailing season. How do we take down the mainsail to store for the winter when we have inmast furling? I have tried to read the manuals but can't really figure it out. Also any good resources for winter storage jobs and what is practical to do yourself? One last question-store with mast up or down what are the advantages/disadvantages of each way?

Don't Give Up !

Linda, I hope you have some pretty weather remaining before you have to winterize. Just getting into sailing season down here. If your 33 is like my 306 just unfurl the main, release the clew shackle and the main halyard then gently pull the sail straight down the track in the furling assy onto the deck. Most yards have a Winter storage checklist they use, a look at one will tell you what you are comfortable doing yourself. Hope this helps..Have a great day!

Taking down mainsail

Is just as MKing described. I took my mainsail down in my H33 (in-mast furling) by unfurling, release clew shackle, drop main with main halyard. It goes up in the reverse. You just have to hook the tack when raised, and then tension the halyard. Michael

Pictures

Linda, when I wintered in RI on my 33 with in-mast furling I took lots of pictures. They helped me this spring. Seems like the most obvious things are easy to forget after a winter (like where did I rig those lines, which roller, and how did I hook that crazy eye before hoisting up the sail) Good luck - it is easier than it sounds.
