I just purchased a C30 that is being moved by truck from L.A. to Portland, OR. Can anyone recommend a list of the items I should, check, update, clean, replace, or consider while the mast and rigging are down before it is restepped and rerigged? Thanks, Steve

My yes...

Check the mast head. Sheaves, Pins, corrision? Check all the lights. Use a loose 12 volt battery or a multimeter. Check the spreaders. Corrosion at the mast? Do the tops need a new finish? If your halyards are internal check them for wear. If it is painted you might want to touch up the nicks. Mast base (corrosion?) Antenna? Wires? Check all the tangs and standing rigging. Get a dye kit and look for cracks. Install electronics? I had my stick down and did a complete overhaul. Paint, wires, lights, everthing. Sure does look good up now.

tons of stuff

This is what is being done to mine as I write. Is it all necessary? The rigger says yes, but then he is getting paid by the hour. Fix any mast step compression Replace standing rigging if the rigging is original. Replace wood spreaders with aluminum Replace all lights Replace antenna Replace all coax and wiring (if orig) Install PVC to encase the wires like on the new boats New windex? Route halyards internally Make sure that there are 2 drain holes near the bottom of the mast Route all wiring through a piece of PVC in the cabin top The rigger had plenty of reasons for each of the above items. Since, I too am new to C30 ownership, I just nodded as he explained, then cried as he totaled up the bill.
