I am looking to replace the instruments on my Catalina 27. I was thinking about using tacktick wind, speed and depth. Just thought I would ask for input (positive or negative) or experiences with these solar powered instruments in looking to make my decision. Thanks

battery life limited

TackTick is a nice thing, but be aware that the battery CANNOT be replaced and has about a 5 yr maximum life. So if the $$$ are not important then go for it. (Might want to check the latest versions though, the jackasses may have finally put replaceable batteries in it)

TackTick

I had one... Race Master. I sailed my other boat and left the thing in the case. Dead battery. I was told they can not be changed. I think they need to redesign the battery system for external power source. $800 a pop is quite expensive for a five year life time of the instrument! They did help me out at Layline. I got a replacement!
