I'm the recent owner of an 87 30 catalina tall rig. When purchased , the alternator was not functioning, so the dealer replaced with a Balmar 50 amp 80 series alternator. The tach was not functioning so I purchased a Teleflex Tachometer/hourmeter. The one with the 12+/- DIP switches on the back. In order to calculate the operating frequency I must know the pulley ratio (1.8 to 2.8 /1). This will allow me to set the switches properly. How is the pulley ratio determined? any other advice on installation would be appreciated. This is one of my "Ten Minute " projects that has me stumped. Thanks, Dave Mariano Let It Ride

The pulley ratio is

the diameter of the large pulley on the engine compared to the diameter of the small pulley on your alternator.
