I am having a problem with my tach. It will only regiser about half of what it should. I don't know where the impulse pickup is or if the Wema tach can be adjusted. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

tach attack

On my 2GM20F the tach runs off of the alternator. So that would be the place to start. The guage is probably OK. Check your engine wiring diagram in the owners manual or tech manual. I'm assuming you have the same engine, but I think all Yanmars are set up this way.

I had a similar problem it turned out to be a loose connection at the engine side. also check the voltage output based on the service manual. I am moving a 31 to the marina in the spring.

Loose Tach Connection at Yanmar

Your problem is most likely a loose connection where the tach cable attaches to the engine. Follow the cable to the engine, port side I think, and you will find that the connectors have loosened. Retighten and watch the tach hold steadily at the regular RPMs. Happy Sailing, Ed
