Can anyone explain why my tach registers rpms up to 2000 and no more even though the engine revs up much higher? There doesn't seem to be any restriction to the swing of the needle and it worked ok until recently. Alternator belt is not loose. Boat model year '83. Engine is a Universal diesel. Maybe it's just worn out?
