Hello,

I had a question about my 361. The main cabin table slides up and down on the mast compression post to convert from a table to a bed. I bought my 361 used and the previous owner was using a screwdriver as the table stop, which my wife doesn't like for fear our daughter will bump into it. I contacted beneteau and they couldn't find the part. Does anyone know what the stock part was? Any leads on where I can get something a little less dangerous? If nothing else we will just press some corks on. Thanks

Congrats on a 361, we love our 99 361. I can see how a screwdriver would be enticing to pull on and if successful the table drops heavy. We have the original (I think) and its just a 90 degree bent piece of stainless rod that fits the hole. I was thinking maybe a large allen wrench would be a good replacement though the sharp corners might leave marks on the holes.

I've seen some drill holes high up on the compression post so the table can be set in a raised position against to the ceiling. the Mrs. doesn't like the idea of drilling in the boat, let alone hull or mast. I'd find a suitable rod and see if someone can put a 90 bend in it.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help. Suprisingly, when we contacted beneteau parts they didn't have a replacement. It always surpises me what they ahve and what they dont. I was envisioning some sort of swanky custom pin with a teathered cap. So they just used a 90degree bent rod? I had an idea last night and thought I might use a pin with a bail which if sized correctly may stick out less and be less of a hazzard. Thanks for your response.

Yup, those will work too, in fact that looks like a better solution than what we have.

I agree with your parts comment... One example is was cup holder bars on the binnacle on our 361. For first 4 years I looked for them then the next 4 years I scoffed at the price of these bent rods... Finally bit the bullet and bought them last year and I don't know HOW we lived without, even if they were $30 each (or thereabout)

It might be a little off in terms of diameter and length, but the pin holding up my table looks a lot like the pin in my car's trailer hitch, the one that holds the bar that holds the hitch ball into the receiver.

I measured mine yesterday at the boat and the pin is 10mm (3/8") and about 5" long with about a 1" 90degree bend. So a 6" piece of solid stainless rod would be perfect.

I should have took a picture but it's basically an "L" there tip is chamfered.rounded slightly.

I checked McMaster-Carr online and they sell a 6" length of S.S. Rod for less then $3.00

I'm sure some local mechanic muffler shop could heat it and but the bend pretty cheap or thread a plastic ball or whatever.....

Good luck

Wow I love this post. I also saw this idea of cross-drilling another hole up toward the ceiling and you then can slide the table up out of the way. I was so excited as it would be cool in my mind. Explained it to my wife and she shot it down not for any strength issues but thought it would look dumb having the table up in the air blocking some nice ceiling lights :)

Actually after sliding it up and having my son hold I had to maybe agree. Plus she pointed out how seldom all the guest are hanging out below. I hate when she is right which is ALWAYS but so happy she loves the boat.

I think raising the table has big benefits to open the salon when its not needed, I came close to just doing it but she'd notice and shut me down for a future "improvement" that might be more important so I pick my battles.

The fear of drilling in the boat is justified since I do all my own work, if I had installed all the accessories I wanted, my way, I think we'd have a Swiss cheese boat held together with Marine Tex :)

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments. I ended up buying a 3/8" x 5" pin from a fitness parts company. They had a variety of sizes and lengths of pins for holding the weight stack on a bench press machine. At 5" it is the perfect length but the detent doesn't extend out the other side. With the weight of the table on it, you don't really need the detents anyhow, but you could step up to a 6" pin and have and extra 1" sticking out. Pick your poison.

FYI, you can pretty much find ANY small hardware part for your boat at McMaster-Carr (including this part). And they deliver real stinking fast! An amazing resource.

My B235 had no salon with the table down. I put 4 dinner plates on the table, then cut the large end off the table what what not really needed for a meal. Raised the table all the way, drilled a hole in the mast, and life was good again.
