Wipe on poly.
Michael: I do not know what condition your table is in or what type of a material you have. If you have a wood veneer, then I would suggest a good cleaning with some type of wood cleaner to remove any and all oils & dirt. A very light sanding and then a wipe on poly finish. You will probably want 4-6 coats. If you do not think that the wood will recover, you can consider have a formica top put on top of the existing one. This is a cheap and easy thing to do. Either a do it yourself or take it to a cabinet shop.
