tabernacle variations?

I noticed in Jim Gariepy's recent picture in the O'Day 22 section, called "Tired O'Day", that the mast foot fitting looks more like the one I've seen on the 23's. But did the 22's change from the hingepin/slot to this arrangement at some point? Or is this not a 22? Rich.

Mast Step

The mast step on the "Tired Old 22" is the same as mine (a 1979 O'Day 22) and is indeed an O'Day 22 mast step. Perhaps more recent models offered a different mast step, but the one shown in the photo seems pretty typical. It's a turned plate bolted to a cast aluminum sleeve that's either rivited or bolted to the mast. The turned plate has two pins that anchor it to a cooresponding "male" turned sleeve bolted to the deck. The pins on mine are unequal in size and caliber, probably an oddity of my particular situation. Hope that helps. What do you have? regards, Stu Timm "Karakahl" 1979 O'Day 22 Centerport, NY

then it did change at some point...

My O'Day 22 is a '72 model. It has the (what I thought was the only type) cast aluminum, slotted, upright, tabernacle bolted to the deck. It has two slots cut out to take a hinge pin which juts from the mast a couple of inches on each side. I was asking, because I saw the pic just before I took a three hour trip to PA to pick up an O'Day 22 mast... and I got nervous, thinking it may be the wrong type. As it is, I got lucky... the method on the mast (I bought it) was the same as mine. The owner also had a complete '75 O22, with the aluminum casting/pin arrangement. So I suppose it changed sometime between '76 and '79. Thanks, Stu... Rich.
