sync anoid

Hi, the only zinc anode on the exterior of my boat is a 1" shaft anode on the propeller shaft, between the strut and where the shaft enters the hull. If there is a lot of galvanic activity in your waters, just put two on the shaft, back-to-back. The Yanmar has zincs but since it is converted to glycol cooling, you do not need to replace these. However there is a 'pencil' anode in the heat exchanger that should be changed every year or so. Location will vary depending on the heat exchanger that is fitted; it will probably be a 1/2" hex-head plug (looks like a drain plug) somewhere near a saltwater connection.

Ditto to what Jim says, plus there is a zinc on my flex-o-fold propeller. There was also a zinc on the old fixed propeller.

The heat exchanger zinc on my 3QM30 is Yanmar part number 27210-200300. It comes complete with a small seal that looks like an O ring.

This question is an oft repeated one that seems to get varying responses depending on the engine.
So, What's the story on the 2GM20F engine? Does anyone know if the heat exchanger has a zinc?

Your 2GM Yanmar has an integral heat exchanger; on the 3QM engines, an external Sendure exchanger was fitted by Hunter. Your exchanger probably has anodic protection - most do. Read post #4 here

The thread title really threw me off but I'm glad I poked my nose in here. I need to check my engine 'nodes.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but; an acquaintance of mine said his brother "ruined" the exposed below water metal on his expensive powerboat due to missing 'nodes. The marina said it was because it was plugged into shore power. Had it not been, it would have been okay they told him. This was freshwater.
