I have an O'day 25 with a swing keel. The Keel needs to come out and be replaced, does anyone have info on how to do this?

I don't know how it compares to the 222, but mine was actually a fairly simple process. Do you have access to the swing keel? Also, I don't know what kind of weight you have in your swing keel/board, but you'll need to take that in consideration. For mine, I supported the board then removed the 6 screws from the 2 plates (2 large and 1 small from each). After the plates, I removed the wedges that hold the pin up. It took some wiggling to get the pin to drop down because of some type of caulk that was used to hold the wedges up. Everything dropped down after that. Here's a post I had about it. Some others posted some good pictures of the parts. I am not aware of O'Days with swing keels, some Catalinas have them. If you are asking about swing centerboards then the previous comments by Joe and Dodge apply. Also check archives for more ... I would add the following. Unlike the two previous replies, they used 5200(?) as caulking for my wedges. I had to destroy one with hammer and chisel to get it and the pieces out. I was able to save the one in somewhat decent condition. D&R aka Rudy sells replacements. I made my replacements with wood and epoxy. Lots of sanding to get to original shape. So be ready to replace wedges if needed. My wedges were removed while on tall stands and replaced by putting boat in a sling. Makes sure that it is safe to be working under boat. When the board is out, it is good time to apply anti fouling paint to inside of board cavity. Ed K 26

That is a good point well taken, Ed! I meant to tell him not to use 5200 Silicon caulking on the wedges. You never want to use 5200 on anything that you may want to remove later. I would definitely use a Polysulfide adhesive type of caulking for the wedges. Small tubes of 3-M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV can be purchased at Wal-Mart. I'm pretty sure that Shane's O'Day 25 a keel centerboard. I'm just not sure whether the older O'Day 25s had the same keel centerboard configuration as the later models. Joe

Luckily, my wedges came out fairly easily. One actually came loose when I used the impact screwdriver on the small screw. The other one was glued in pretty good and took some prying with a putty knife. Overall they're in pretty decent shape. I'll probably try to build them up a bit with thickened epoxy. Really only about 1/8" needs to be built up. If the removal is anything like the 222, it's really not bad. I expected much worse. I just dropped mine down on a mechanic's creeper.
