Swing Keel side swing

I am in the process of trying to salvage a very used Catalina 22 # 5238 (I think). During a recient haulout to put her on a trailer, I let the keel down and was really surprised at the amount of side to side movement. Can anyone tell me how much play there should be? It did seem that there was some less play at full extension than at about halfway down. any comments will be apperciated. Thanks Al

Watch out for that swing!!!

Caution! We noticed a side swing last season pulling our boat out and were told that was okay. We lost our keel this season in a storm and found out that often keels are installed/re-installed on used Catalinas upside down (its easy to do)...We advise you serously consider mounting the boat and looking underneath with handbook and verify your pins are not worn. We found the Catalina Yacht website very helpful.A little time will save you much money and heartache - We love our boat and found out the hard way...Take Care...
