I tried today to lift my keel with a broken cable to no avail. she will not budge. does anyone know why this would happen? Or is it just because she is so dang heavy? Thank you ahead of time for any information...

Your Swing Keel Weighs 1,500 lbs

You didn't say how you were attempting to raise your keel, but it weighs 1,500 lbs and is cast iron. Other than with the cable and winch, raising the keel would be very difficult. BTW: When you replace the cable, you should also replace the brass turning ball and pin. These are found in the molded hole for the keel cable. The turning ball prevents the keel cable from rubbing on the fiberglass of the hole and trunk. The ball wears out over time and often becomes stuck causing considerable friction when raising the keel. Be careful replacing the ball and pin. They are under water, so the job needs to be done with the boat on a trailer or lift of some sort. Bill Holcomb - C25 Snickerdoodle #4839

Changing The Ball

Hi Robert, Changing the turning ball and pin is not a hard job. But, the boat does need to be out of the water. The pin for the ball is held in place by the rubber hose that the keel cable passes through. Remove the hose and this exposes the pin for the old turning ball. You may have to use a drift punch 'n hammer to get the old pin out of the old turning ball. Installing the new turning ball and pin is easy and then you replace the rubber hose and cable clamps. All this should be done before you install the new cable. Everything is well pictured on the C25/C250 National Association website in the brochures section as there is a C25 parts book complete with pictures there. http://c25c250.best.vwh.net/restricted/pc13.gif Bill Holcomb - C25 Snickerdoodle #4839
