Swing Keel Maintenance

I am in the process of purchasing a 1986 swing keel, Catalina 25. There is a new cable for lifting the keel but I was wondering about the inspection/maintenance for the keel pivot pin. Must/should it be replaced and if so, how often? How do you replace it? Any experiences/history with failure of this part. Thank you.

The Catalina system is fairly bullet proof.

I have sailed a C22 for about 5 years and have checked out the keel system on my boat and it shows virtually no wear after 28 years. There is a company called "Catalina Direct" that specializes in C22 and C25 boat parts. The catalog they have shows the keel system in detail and every part in it is stocked. I would recommend it. The keel pin and assy.is robust to start with. In the possibility of your needing anything they will have it and installation is possible if you are mechanical. Ray
