Looking for some input as to the weight of my swing keel. It is about 60 inches long by 11 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches at the thickest point. Now this is a foil shape and goes from 0 at the leading edge to about 2 1/2 inches 4 inches or so from the leading edge and then tapers down to about 1/2 inch at the trailing edge. Its seems to be either steel ground to shape or perhaps cast iron? and covered with an epoxy coating about 1/8 inch thick. I've estimated it to be about 300 lbs but it does not feel that heavy actually when lifting one end or the other of it. Its definately not 'WOOD'.
Anyhow any idea's. I'm trying to pin down the actual ballast weight for this boat excluding extra's.
This lifts into a steel trunk bolted onto the bottom of the boat keel that weighs about 250 lbs and then there are 13 lead pucks glassed into the inside of the hull to each side of the keel line weighing another 200 lbs.
