Swing Keel Eye Bolt

I have replaced my swing keel cable this weekend, while under the boat and looking at the Eye Bolt I was wondering if this eye bolt needs to be changed and how deep is the Eye Bolt screwed into the iron cast keel. Has anyone ever changed the Eye bolt? Thanks AL

it is common to do this if that eye bolt gets a stress fracture or shows sign of wear... If you go to www.catalinadirect.com you can order a new one and they can point you in the right direction. I installed a home made SS eye bolt. The thread is 1/2" NC X 1-1/8" long.

Al,I purchased the kit to replace my keel cable and all the related items. I opted not to replace the eye bolt as it looked like it was in good shape and I feared that I would do more damage if I tried to extract it. I have one sitting on my work bench that you're welcome to have if you like. Let me know.David#4330"Dumbo"
