I have a 1975 H30 with a swing keel/centerboard and would line to change the way the the pipe through which the cable runs to lower and raise the centerboard. Right now, the bilge has what appears to be a flange with a nipple, then a 1/2"hose,connected to a stainless pipe which runs up to the cabin top. Through this configuration the cable runs from a winch on the cabin top to the swing keel. I think the design is awful because of the possibility of the hose comeing loose and therefore sinking the boat. (The hose part is in the bilge below the water line). I was thinking of attatching a stancion flange in the bilge over the existing short length of pipe, and run a stainless pipe up from that attatching it to the cabin roof. This would eliminate the hose in the bilge. Where I attatch the flange and pipe in the bilge, I was thinking of using 5200 to make it absolutely water tight in the bilge. Has anyone worked on this problem before, and how was it solved. No matter how much I tighten the hose in the bilge, eventually, water seeps in. I hope I explained this well enough to get some answers and ideas. this is a great forum and I thank you in advance for advice.BarryPerseverence.
