Catalina 22 Ridgway Resevoir
I purchased a 83 Catalina 22 last summer, its in great shape except leak at tube.
There is a crack in the rubber tube that the swing keel cable comes through to the winch.
There is water leaking from this while moored.
Is it as simple as removing hose clamps, taking tube out (dry land) and replacing?
Is there a specific replacement part? Better way of doing this?

Thanks for any input,
Bill

If the rest of the tube seems OK, just use MarineTex or epoxy.

Hi Bill,
If it's the rubber hose, lower or block the keel, remove the cable from the winch drum, loosen the hose clamp and replace the old hose with a new one and reverse the process on the install. That would also be a good time to inspect the turning ball. I bought the complete kit that included new hose, ball and cable, etc. when i did mine from Cat Direct. Like you said, definitely a land project.

I would replace it instead of trying to repair it. If it's going bad in one area it's just a matter of time before it goes bad in another. Don't do what I did, I tried to save a buck and bought a piece of hose on Ebay that I thought would work. Couldn't fine a tube with the correct ID. I ended up buying from CD anyway.

It is really hard to argue against buying the whole kit. I bought the complete kit and replaced everything, cable, turning ball, rubber hose, hose clamps.

Lots of times you can figure out the source and name brand of the stuff on CD, but in this instance, it is probably the very best source for these specific parts.

I agree and if some of the old parts are still in usable shape, I replace them anyway and keep for spares. Never know when you might need something in a pinch.:D
