Swing keel cable hums.

I've had my C-22 for a couple months now, and I'm pretty happy with it. The one thing that bothers me as I'm cruising along the tranquel waters is a humming sound that I assume comes from the cable on the keel. I've played with a bit, giving it lots of slack or trying to leave the keel in different positions. Sometimes it goes away, then comes back again. What have other poeple tried to keep the keel cable from humming? Or does it Hum because it doesn't know the words? <g> Thanks, John F.

Hummmmmm

Our C25 did it a certain seeds. We either let it go slack, or put a minimum of tension on it, and it went away.

humming

I have read, and been told, that slackening the cable will pretty much stop that hum-it works for me

Humming along

Well this is probably the only drawback to a swing keel that I can imagine but depending on speed, current and wind mine will humm along. It doesn't really bother me but it drives my 2 miniature doxies NUTS, So I slaken the cable and it goes away. I have owned 3 swing keel boats not all Catalina's but believe me they all hum if the conditions are just right. :) Dave

Happy boat

When my keel cable hums, its usually when the boat is sailing at its best. I just assume that it means the boat is happy. :)
