So I have a Venture 21 and the bolt must have come off connecting the winch cable to the keel. The problem is the boat is on a trailer and where the bolt needs to go somehow got up into the hole where the cable runs through. I was thinking that if I backed it off the trailer into the water a little bit the keel may swing out enough so I can run the cable back trough. Just wanted to see if anyone had any better ideas, or a way I could do it on the trailer so I don't have to get in the frigid water just yet. Thanks everyone...

You should be able to do the job on the trailer, there should be enough room to push the keel over to see the hole. Are you sure the cable isn't broken? I did mine on the trailer w/o a problem. If you do need to drop it slightly for access, crank the trailer jack down as far as it will go, block the rear of the boat, and crank the jack back up as high as it will go, that should give you enough room. search the Mac board for keel cable threads for ideas.
I'm sure the cable isn't broken because I wound it all the way up. There's just no bolt anymore. The problem is the keel is pushed all the way up so the mount where the bolt needs to go thru is literally in the hole the cable comes thru. So I can't even access the spot where the bolt goes to.

Update in case anyone cared. Using my car jack on some cinder blocks I just jacked the boat up and the keel fell down. I reattached the bolt and all was good. Thanks.
glad you got it fixed, congrats, i am going to take my keel off in the next couple of weeks for repair and clean the grove out where it goes in the hull, not looking foreward to it, hear its a big job. glad you got yours fixed

Here is a simple trick that you can use to get your boat jacked up using your boat trailer. First lower the tounge of the trailer as low as you can possible get it. Then measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the boat and put a stand there or make something out of 4x4s. After you have the back of the boat supported take the jack of the trailer and raise the tounge of the trailer all of the way up. At this point the boat should sit on a front roller and the back support that you added. This will lift the trailer off the bunks and may give you enough room to work on your center board.
