One of the two bolts holding one side of my swing keel pin is missing. It does not appear to have broken. A shipyard told me to remove one on the other side to compare for replacement.I heard the bolts can snap off easily.Anybody have this problem.

Catalina Direct

Call Catalina Direct to order a new set of bolts (800) 959-7245. You could probably find an equivalent bolt thru someone locally but you might sacrifice the quality and strength of the bolt. I have heard that they are easy to snap/strip. I removed mine yestaurday and they were not as tight as you might suspect. In order to satisfy myself I am going to use Loc-Tite when I replace them to help prevent them from backing out. Brandon

Loose Bolts

Brandon is right on. Advice I keep reading about this for the future, is not to tighten very tight, and either use something like Locktite or put some epoxy glue on the head of the bolt where it contacts the hanger, or check for tightness occasionally. My wild guess is that they are most apt to loosen while trailering, so check them before launching especially after a long or bumpy ride. Does someone knows if they might also loosen during sailing?
