I would like to hear from sailors who could compare an O25 swing board with an catalina 25 swing board. How thay sail in all kinds of weather. I will be sailing in Charolette harbor fl and the coastal waters there. Thank you.

Sailing not the issue

1. Safety. Swing boards will go kapluey if the line should snap for any reason. 2. Ease. Fixed keel is just that, no fuss. 3. Grounding. Swing is obviously preferable. 4. Jamming. See "Swing Keel" item below re 22.

Ballast

On my O'day 26 the ballast is in the trunk and the swing board is light weight. On the Cat 22 I owned before, the ballast was in the swing board which required a winch to raise the board. On the 26 the swing board is easy to pull up by hand and easy to remove if repairs are needed. I an not sure what type are on the boats you are looking at, but it is somthing to consider.

Swing Keel

I own an O-Day 25 swing keel. Here in the south the water is so thin its almost a must to have the option of being able to raise your keel and slip into a shallow harbor. I've sailed her in 30+ wind with not too much trouble although she does tend to want to head up in puffs. All in all I am a happy camper. I'm starting to gather info on the Telstar28 though. Check it out.
