Swim platforms

[Ramming Speed]

My father would like to add a s.p. to his Catalina 30 hull #2670. Is there any reason or concerns he should not do this?? If it's possible is there a max size?? We are a handy bunch and will do the labor ourselves if it's possible to. Are there any websites or youtube vids on having this done with some specs of the hull for mounting purposes?

What kind of platform? Are you looking to do a lot of fiberglass work and add to the hull or are you looking at a "bolt on" platform like many power boats or the new Island Packets have?

How large of one do you want. My PO installed a very nice fold down platform on the end of the ladder that works great.

It is simply a square piece of plexi the width of the ladder, It folds down when the ladder is lowered and the outer end is supported by lines bac up to the transom. Simple and effective.

I have thought about putting a very small teak swim platform where the ladder is on the back of my boat. Just wider than the width of the ladder and it would go where the ladder bolts on the stern.

Be interesting to see pictures of other Catalina 30 with this modification.

Then again, if I was going to spend a few thousand on my boat I would buy a new sail!

ooops! forgot to mention that you have to go to the c30 section. beside the swim platform, there are some other interesting mods that other guys have done. worth a look.
