I just received my swim (reboarding after you fall in) ladder. The ladder has 4 Rungs. How far below the stern rub rail are the swivel plates mounted. thanx, gene

Gene,

Hang it over the side while you are in the water. The worst thing about a ladder is if it is to short to get on from the water. Having a ladder that is hard to get on is worst than having a ladder that is a long step to the cockpit. r.w.landau

I can't handily hang it over the side as I am 3.5 hours from a suitable body of water. I have a ladder from DRMarine. It is the same specs as OEM. I just did not get info on measurements. I thought perhaps I could get info from an O'day 25 owner(s) who's boat came with the ladder installed correctly and I could copy the measurements. If I can't get a measurement of the distance from the stern rub rail to the say top rung of the ladder or the mounting plate, which is all I really need, I will use my P-18 as a guide as to how far below the water line it hangs and derive my O'day measurement from that. thanx, gene

I think this is one little project that you could safely put off until you ARE near a suitable body of water. The holes you will have to drill are above the waterline, so it doesn't have to be installed "out of the water". If it were me, I'd wait until I go to the water, take a drill and some expoxy with me, align it, drill oversize holes, fill with epoxy, and go sailing. The next day, I'd install it.
