Does anyone know of a swim ladder that would work for a H23, maybe even a removable one that can be taken off when not in use?

I have used looped rope and the over the transom removeable. Looped rope isn't so good; when in the water with a foot in the loop grasping the rope your body will go under the transom and it takes much upper body strength to haul out- not good if tired. The over the transom hook ladder was a bit flimsy and wobbly and the stand-offs didn't connect adequately with the lower edge of the transom, and then when stowed in the lazaret it was always in the way (and no good if I fell over single-handing). I recently installed a three step folding telescopic that serves well while on the trailer and going aboard to rig. This requires drilling and a backing plate. See photos on my page.

Total agreement w/ Mark. Also don't get the $20 plastic steps on a rope either. You just end up trying to power out from the vicinity of the keel. The sliding stainless ladder is good but requires an existing platform. The h23 doesn't have a nice walk-out transom to work from.

So....I have been giving some thought to an aluminum and teak platform/ladder that starts out as a 24x24x4" package that is easy to fold. It is a fairly simple design and has the added benefit of the steps locking down at a comfortable angle and also up for an extra seat.

My motivation is to get the cost of a custom fab down into the affordable range. If you or anyone else is interested in going forward for an "at cost" (2 or more off) version, I can have a quote prepared by the local fab shop. If it is a good idea, who knows where it may lead. The design is universal with only 2 variables.

For now I am going into the 2009 summer with a stainless and teak 17"x 14" platform hanging off the stern. Great for showing off strength and agility.

Best regards........ Rich B.
