Swim Ladder, 1990 Cat 30

Good Morning,
Just purchased a Catalina 30. The owner had taken off the swim ladder. When I attempted to reinstall the mounting flanges on the hinge seem to be too short for the support arms to land on the stern flat and at a 90 deg angle. Does this ladder need to be mounted on board then thru the stern with a backer board? Also where the supports land is now occupied by two thru stern fittings? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

However, I suspect he removed the ladder for the same reasons you're having trouble getting it to fit. If you post a picture someone might offer a suggestion or two. Have you tried locating it on the other side of the transom?
