Hunter Vision-36 Richmond
Looking at purchasing a 1978 - 1980 Swift 40 Ketch. They were designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built in Korea to Lloyds of London standards.

They check off a lot of the boxes for they type of boat we are looking for.

Does anyone have any experience, knowledge, comments or criticisms of these boats?

Thanks,

Mike

Hmm not much response, well looking at sailboat data and comparing to the hunter vision 36 it looks like about the same LWL (same hull speed) a little bit more sail area but a lot more ballast and slightly more beam so I would guess overall greater righting moment = less tippy.
SF bay in the winter = low wind likely to be slower than the vision due to lower SA/D SF bay in the summer = adequate wind likely to be about as fast (same waterline) but less heeling
PHRF on the vision 138
PHRF on the Swift = ?

Interior space you can decide, construction quality? get a survey

Slickcraft 26 Sailfish

Here is a picture of one
It's a lot better looking photographed in the water than the diagram on SBD.
New England PHRF rates the North Star 80/20 at 195. According to SBD they are similar. But that may not account for differences in the rig.
If it fits most of your checkboxes, why don't you get after it?

I don't know anything about that boat. But I can tell you that a ketch can be a joy to sail. After Katrina I helped a friend take an Allied Mistress, ( a 39 ) across the gulf from Tampa area to Houston. There are so many sail options, and the boat can be set up to maintain it's track, no auto pilot, no wheel steering, just get is set and forget it. Until the wind shifts of course. :)

What sailaway said. I've got a special affection for Jib and Jigger cruising in a fresh breeze!

Thanks. The pic was taken from our dingy at Stansbury, South Australia. We are anchored behind a sand spit along side a scallop bed. Jump over with the dive gear on and get a feed.
Cheers

Thanks,
