I aquired a 1997 two stroke 4 hp. Suzuki ob. with no manuals and I need the fuel mix ratio. Does any one have one of these motors or familiarity with them? I am inclined to use 50:1, but you know what happens when you assume. I was going to use Penzoil synthetic and add cleaner/stabilizer and would like to know if that oil combo is an acceptable choice for small Suzukis. Thanks

Only use a multi-purpose 2-cycle engine oil -

I had a Suzuki 2 cycle outboard on my last boat - 5 hp - and it was a great dependable engine. Never let me down, and plenty of power for a Shark 24. Use a 50 to 1 mixture with this engine. Synthetic is fine - make sure you mix it well into the gas. Add a stabilizer at the end of the season before you store the engine for the winter. Let the engine run for at least 10 minutes to make sure the stablized mixture is in all the engine parts where needed. Will start right up next spring.

Check Google for Shop Manuals

Rob - if you plan to maintain the outboard yourself you're going to need a shop manual eventually. Recommend going into Google and search for "suzuki outboard manual", or words to that effect and I'm sure you'll get lots of good hits. Another good place may be Amazon. Just a suggestion.

I have the suzi 5 DT

It is a 1978 or 9 model as far as we can figure. I found a place on the net that said to use 100:1 and I have done that with no ill effects, but common feedback to me on the same question, is to go 50:1. I have done that also and it seems to work just as well. Currently, I mix just a bit leaner that 50:1 to reduce some of the smoking so figure I have about 70:1 or therabouts. I have not had any overheating with 100:1. I did find a parts manual at http://www.brownspoint.biz/
