I have the opportunity to pick up this motor for a decent price but can't seem to find much information on, for example, was it built by Suzuki or one of the "corporate suppliers"? it's a two cylinder, two cycle, long shaft with forward/rev/neutral etc. anyone here own one or recognize it, and have opinion on durability etc?
Thanks,
Russ

I don't know who built it; I assumed they did. I purchased one when it was just available 25 years ago. It was a wonderful, fast starting, smooth engine. That was a long time ago.

Not much help but I had a Suzuki 85hp of that same year......I believe 1983 or 84? It ran better than the old 115 Mercury it replaced. I never had a problem with it. Good motor.

I had a 1989 8hp with an internal oil tank. It was the best damned little outboard I ever owned. My nephew managed to loose it off the transom!
P.S... Don't lend it to anyone

I have one. Replaced my 9.9 Honda with it about 2 seasons ago to save weight. Its performed and has run great with no problems. It does uses a little more gas and of course you have to mix oil but not much of a problem. The motor I have also has electrical charging and I don't know if all do??

In the 70s Suzuki built tons of two stroke motorcycles, so I'd say the had pretty good experience with 2 strokes. I have a similar 4HP Suzuki outboard. While it always ran well, it did eventually get some dirt in the float needle valve. Not a design fault, but just old dirty gas. There is plenty of info and parts diagrams on the internet. A few Youtube videos, so it is a popular series motor.

I use to have an Oday 222 with Honda 7.5. When I got a B235 it came with your Suz 6 engine. Boat and motor were two years old and looked brand new. I was never happy with the power, so went to a Honda 8 XLS. I don't think 6 is enough for your 25' boat.
