This is a cry for help from an ex Hobie 16 sailor (25 years), who's wife wants to swap trapeezing and swimming for gin and tonics on the deck. I have found what I think is an Oday 23 (apologies to MArk for incorrect identification)- plate XDYL038?1172 (can't read all the numbers) in a back yard in Port au Prince, Haiti. With limited resources I want to put her back in the water - I understand she last sailed 18 months ago. She will never be pretty but the main problems are : 1. Corroded keel (see photo), 2. barrier coat missing (see photo - yellow is the colour of the rest of the hull), 3. no centreboard, 4. bow deck soft under foot, 5. All teak runners and rails rotten. The hull seems in good shape with no cracks or damage - only a few knocks in the rubrail and decking. Some stays and perhaps the mainsail need replacing. Any and all advice to a novice Oday restorer would be greatly appreciated. Lack of knowledge and limited tools are replaced with buckets of enthusiasm, plenty of helping hands and a skilled carpenter. This old lady has spent her years retired in the Caribbean sun, but it's time to give her a new lease of life in this 'Survivor' style restoration project.
