Good question. I believe we are at a low for value.
Seems Challengers now run from 0 for complete projects to ? for well maintained boats. This seems to be true for alot of boats of this era. The good news is, they are coming back! All the classic plastic boats are making a comeback. Challengers are vintage Classic Plastic, the real founders of this "new age" of glass.
My boat was insurance valued at 50,000 when I purchased it(for 30,000)-it's "real" value that day. The difference in values swings wildly.
A Hinckley B40 has a value of 150k in moderate condition, but these boats are always well cared for and very "recognized" by boaters. Our boats are alittle more problematic in that much of the boat is wood. Hmmm,...good or bad? I say good! These boats should be recognized for their heritage- the transistion from wood to glass.
They are also much less recognized-fewer built as well. We can do alot the get them noticed. This website, articles in magazines showing photos of the boat(I get alot of Challenger interest from readers)will make a difference. Most of all, restoring and maintaining these boats is what is needed for all to increase in value.
