Surveyor needed in Savannah, GA

My offer was accepted on a Morgan 415 Out Island. The owner agreed to stipulate the sale pending survey. The problem is the boat is in Thunderbolt, GA and I live in Alabama and I haven't a clue how to go about finding a reputable surveyor. Can anyone recommend a good surveyor and a good diesel mechanic to investigate the engine? Any other words of wisdom would also be most gratefully accepted.

Check these out

Ralph. Get on the web and look up both NAMS (National Association of Marine Surveyors) and SAMS (Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors). Both list Savannah, Georgia based surveyors accredited by these organizations. Be sure to get references and check the references. Savannah is a great pleasure boating location and I am sure that you will find the right surveyor for the Morgan. I have owned eight sailboats over the years and have learned that surveyors have varying levels of expertise and all follow basic procedures. Its just finding that one surveyor who has had plenty of experience with that sized vessel and applicable systems. Getting an engine survey is an excellent idea and I would contact one of the area distributors of the engine model on the Morgan to seek an independent marine engine technician or shop and go from there. Good luck and the Morgan Out Island is one of my favorites! Bob Georgia

This is now the 2nd boat that this forum has helped me buy.
