Marine Surveyors

This guy was hired by my insurance company to help out with damage from a large oil spill from an Evergreen ship last year. However, his main business is surveying. I think he would do a good job for you. Contact Capt. Neil Haynes, NAMS/Certified, SAMS/ Accredited. (843)559-2857. Another one in this area is Admiralty Marine Surveyors - www.admiraltysurveyors.com - SAMS Accredited, ABYC, BUC, NFPA, BOAT/US. (843) 762-7176

We were looking at a used Catalina 30 at the City Marina and researched Charleston based surveyor's. Neil's name came up from many folks, but I was cautioned that he was so thorough that he was called by many surveyor's as too thorough. Thats good as far as I am concerned. In talking to Neil, he goes up the mast (one of the few) and will look at the "major" issues first like soft decks, worn standing rigging, etc., to let you know ahead of time if its worth his time and your money to proceed. Neil is a bit pricey, but considering just how thorough he is, he comes with strong recommendations from many in the area. We backed off on the Catalina and he never performed the survey for us, but we spend enough time with him prior to setting up the survey that we were convinced he was the guy to have on the job. Good luck Bob

Chuck, I am going to agree with Bob. I am a SAMS surveyor here in NY and I don't think any surveyor can be "too" thorough. Remember the surveyor you choose works for you and only you. I don't know Neil but from what I read here he sounds like a person you would want to represent you. Good Luck Charlie Gruetzner
