Survey

Regarding buying the "cheap" Vega in Washington DC that is in the water: GET A SURVEY!!!!!!! A few years ago I bought an old Vega without a survey for about the same price you are considering. BIG MISTAKE! I spent a long time and a lot of money getting it back into shape, and then discovered that my insurance company required the survey. I was terrified that the survey would conclude that the boat was junk with a lot of new part on it. As it turned out, the survey turned out fine, but the surveyor did point out many deficiencies that I didn't see or know about.

This winter I bought another boat that acutally had been surveyed by the seller as a selling tool (it was a donation.) The survey allowed me to make an appropriate bid for the boat and also allowed me to set a realistic budget for the renovations. I know that the survey was critical to project and I would never, never ever buy a boat without one. I HATE paying people to help me, but the survey is worthwhile.

Good luck with the boat!

Hi

I have bought two vegas for myself and over ten for friends and never had a
survey done. Unless the boat has been in warm water without being taken out
for years or obviously neglected then I see no point. At the price you are
getting that Vgea for even at worst case you might have to spend another
$5000 but well worth it.
