3 dime size blisters on the hull. Is this a big problem? Should I purchase this '89 sailboat? Thank you.

Jeunesse?

Hi Jerry, Is it 1 blister or a lot of blisters? Are you the owner of Jeunesse or trying to buy her? I'm just asking because our boat is on the same dock. Philipp H27-Mersea

Probably not a big deal ....

Too much hype and needless transfer of boat bucks with 'blisters' -IMHO. Probably more hulls are destroyed by DIY blister repair than anything else; I'd be very reluctant to buy a boat from someone who did a DIY blister repair. Probably the BEST online reference source for 'blisters': http://www.yachtsurvey.com/blisters.htm

Dime size blisters

And only three of them? From almost everything I have read, a few small blisters is nothing to worry about. It might be a slight bargaining tool, but as for something to worry about, it would be far down the list. Now it it had a thousand dime size blisters, or a hundred large blisters, I would certainly say something different. Read some of the websites, such as David Pascoes, for much more info.

While I would not be very concerned

about a few relatively small blisters, which ought to be easily repairable, I would get a professional surveyor to look at the boat in question. You want a surveyor who has a LOT of experience using a good quality moisture meter (like the Tramex Skipper). Using and interpreting the results of a moisture meter can often be more art than science so you want someone who has done a lot of this kind of analysis. I would also very carefully inspect every inch of the hull below the waterline looking for tiny pinhead size crystalline formations. These formations are the precursors to the formation of common blisters. If you see a lot of these, you know you are going to get more blisters.
