I bought a rotary tool on a lark a way's back at Harbor Freight for something like $4.99. On sale ... plus I had on of their 20% off coupons. Actually the main reason for the purchase was all the accessories in the box which I expected would augment my Dremel collection. The tool's "power source" is 12V courtesy of an in-the-box low mah 110v wall wart. Didn't supply enough juice to do much. But when I jury-rigged the tool for 12V power from my boat's cigarette socket, performance sparked up enough that I found that the gadget actually was useful. I've used the cut-off wheel attachment to trim back various SS screws and cut thin metal in tight spots. Really cool are all the accessories including 20 diamond burr bits of various shapes. The downside of the accessories is that shank diameter is smaller than the Dremel standard. So the accessories did not migrate to my Dremel collection.
This tool doesn't come anywhere close to a real Dremel tool and might have the life-span of a mosquito. But useful to leave on the boat for those days when I might decide on a whim to do a small project and did not think beforehand to bring my Dremel from home. Also, I don't normally run a heavy yellow marine cord to shore 110v on my boat. So 12v is useful.
